ECA

Egyptian Colloquial Arabic (ECA) is the spoken language of Egypt and the most widely understood Arabic dialect in the Middle East due to its popular usage in media and music.

We aim to give students a working knowledge of ECA, enabling them to accomplish everyday tasks, chat with native speakers and, as a student progresses through the courses, become able to communicate increasingly more complex ideas and opinions. ECA courses at IH Cairo ILI will also give a student a working knowledge of the Arabic script.

ECA is taught in a highly participatory manner, using the situational language teaching methodology, with an emphasis on communication and allowing students to focus on pronunciation and vocabulary.

IH Cairo ILI's ECA course programme has 12 levels, ranging from Beginners (Level One) to Advanced (Level 12). A general guide to what is learnt at each level is below.

Two and four week courses in ECA are regularly offered throughout the year.

ECA classes run daily from Sunday through Thursday each week. Each class is two hours long with a total of 10 classroom hours for each student every week.

MSA

Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is the written language of Arabic. It is developed from Classical Arabic which is the language of the Holy Quran. MSA or 'Fus'ha' is also used in academia and formal media.

MSA teaching at IH Cairo ILI focuses primarily on developing reading and writing skills with  listening and speaking components taught alongside. The objective of our MSA courses is to enable you to read and write at an appropriate academic level, and to enable you to follow current day-to-day events in the Middle East and North Africa. Our MSA courses also serve as an introduction to the enormous wealth of Arabic literature.

We offer 12 MSA levels. Two and four week courses in MSA are regularly offered throughout the year.

MSA classes run daily from Sunday through Thursday each week. Each class is three hours long with a total of 15 classroom hours for each student every week.
